About the Artists

Julia Yoshida

"I was a visual learner from an early age.  I enjoyed my introduction to multiple mediums of art during lengthy summer sessions at the Honolulu Academy of Arts from the time I was 7, and I was the “go-to” illustrator in high school. As a liberal arts undergraduate student in college, I found time for drawing and painting courses while doing coursework and research in Zoology.  My field documentations in grad school frequently contained drawings of scenes with animals.  In medical school, I naturally took to the visual challenges of studying human anatomy and physiology.  I spent 3 intense and formative years as a medical resident at Yale New Haven Hospital during 1981-84. I recall passing Dr. Elisha Atkins in the hospital wards on occasion but did not know then about his interest and love of birds.  I feel honored to exhibit at Habitat, the family estate where Dr. Atkins and his family lived. After retiring from a 30-year practice of internal medicine-primary care, I found more substantial time to paint. With Caleb Stone’s guidance and recommendations, I found the work of painting watercolors pleasantly challenging."

Caleb Stone

Caleb studied Art at the Lyme Academy in Connecticut and with his father Don Stone, NA. He has since been regularly teaching, traveling, and painting and has held workshops in the US, Italy, and Alaska. He works in both oil and watercolor. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the John Stobart Fellowship Award, the New England Heritage Award, and the Wood Award for Excellence in Watercolor, and The Gold Medal for first place in the Land and Light at Bryan Memorial Gallery Jeffersonville VT. He was fortunate to have grown up in the Art Colony of Rockport, Massachusetts and exposed at a very early age to plein - air painting by his father Don Stone. His attraction to the French and American Impressionists and choice of art as a career grew from and was nurtured by this environment. He currently resides in Rockport, Massachusetts.

Barbara Ewen

Barbara has had a long and vibrant career in advertising and public relations, but always held drawing and painting as an important part of her life. She is inspired by natural settings and old buildings, such as barns. The many protected lands throughout her home of Concord and across New England provide many opportunities to compose her paintings. She has studied with many artists but most particularly Caleb Stone. Recently her work was accepted and shown in Concord Art’s juried Roddy Show and has been displayed in many other locations.

Opening Reception

Celebrate the exhibition on Sunday, May 4 from 2-5 pm. Meet the artists, enjoy light refreshments, and explore the art. This event is free with admission.
