Tidmarsh Storywalk Kickoff

Description

As the herring migrate towards their freshwater spawning grounds, join us at Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary for a StoryWalk about a herring fry named Allie! On the kickoff day, we will read aloud the book "The Adventures of Allie the Alewife" as we walk together down a short, gently sloping trail that crosses rivers where herring will be swimming.

In between readings, a Mass Audubon educator will explain why the annual herring run is an important ecological event and how they track the herring population's health during this migration.

The StoryWalk will stay up at Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary to be enjoyed from March 29th to May 3rd.

The StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition (VBPC) and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.

"The Adventures of Allie the Alewife" is written by Barbara Brennessel and illustrated by Maria Picariello for the Herring River Restoration Project.

This program is made possible by generous support from the America the Beautiful initiative in partnership with Plymouth Public Library.
