Description
On the eve of Valentine's Day, look to the birds for demonstrations of love! Some birds, including Bald Eagles, Ravens, and Mute Swans, mate for life. Others, such as House Wrens, Eastern Phoebes, and Black-capped Chickadees, share a pair bond just for a season. Still others, like Red-winged Blackbirds and hummingbirds, don’t bond with a particular mate at all. Courtship behaviors include amazing displays like those of American Woodcocks; nesting selections by Carolina Wrens and Bald Eagles; and donning bright and beautiful seasonal colors like Scarlet Tanagers and Black-throated Blue Warblers. Look into some of the fascinating ways in which birds participate in courtship, taking a closer peek at a few of our local birds to appreciate their dedicated, unique methods for finding the perfect mate.
