Description
Though covered by a blanket of ice, frozen winter ponds are not as still and lifeless as they may seem. Some pond critters stay active in the cold water, moving about and finding food. Others overwinter in the mud beneath the water layer, waiting for conditions to become more hospitable. Find out what various pond animals do underneath the ice and how their remarkable adaptations allow survival in the coldest temperatures.
