Winter Birds of New Mexico

Description

The southwest is an amazing area to birdwatch any time of year. Most people familiar with birdwatching think of southeast Arizona as a must visit destination. However, New Mexico also hosts an amazing assortment of bird life with one of the highest species lists in the US. The central corridor of New Mexico has a diversity of habitats including desert scrub, riparian woodland, and high-elevation coniferous forest.

As special highlights, we will explore the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, which is famed for the spectacle of tens of thousands of wintering Sandhill Cranes, Snow Geese, and a variety of other waterfowl. Sandia Crest is a 10,679-foot peak in the Sandia Mountains and offers the chance to see high-elevation species including the three types of North American rosy-finch (Gray-crowned, Black, and Brown-capped).
