Friday Morning Birding

Description

Welcome to birdwatchers of all skills and levels!

Venture by van and carpool to a variety of locations around Essex County with our experienced guides. You'll observe a rich diversity of birdlife while exploring different habitats each week, and have the opportunity to talk with other participants as the birds change throughout the seasons.

Please note the instructions and directions for each program, as some require meeting at specific locations and not caravaning from our Newburyport location. The meeting time changes to 8:30 am on November 1.

*Once per month, from November through March, Friday Morning Birding will meet at Cape Ann for special winter birding opportunities.

Instructions

Meet at Joppa Flats Education Center, 1 Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport, MA. From there we will travel by Mass Audubon vans and carpool.

Mass Audubon and the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge encourage carpooling to reduce the number of vehicles inside the refuge. Our program passes cover our vans and carpooling, but not individual one-person vehicles within the caravan. Participants who choose not to carpool by driving without at least one passenger will be asked to cover the $5 fee at our front desk during registration. Thank you for helping to reduce the impact of vehicular traffic at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge.

Bring binoculars, a field guide to birds, and a scope if you have one. Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather and terrain. Participants should expect to walk trails with moderate terrain changes at a slow pace, for a mile or more.
