Ipswich River Nature Preschool Summer Program: Keeping Cool

Description

The Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary is proud to offer our nature preschool for 3-7 year olds located at the Endicott Wildlife Sanctuary in Wenham. Launched in September 2015, our nature preschool features highly qualified teachers with backgrounds in early childhood and nature education and a nature-based, emergent curriculum which promotes language, math, and social development. At Ipswich River Nature Preschool, we believe that a child learns best when exposed to nature on a consistent basis. Through multi-sensory explorations and cooperative play, our nature-based program nurtures each child's inborn curiosity.

How do animals, people and plants stay cool when it is hot outdoors? At Keeping Cool Week, we will explore the strategies that all living creatures depend upon to stay hydrated and cool as summer heats up. Through observation and learning activities, we'll learn about how sweating and panting help animals stay cool, how some creatures become dormant (estivate) in the heat and how other animals seek shelter and water when temperatures climb. Through exploring our landscape, we'll gain an appreciation of the role that trees and vegetation play in surviving the heat.
