Teen Birders: Bear Creek

Description

Join us on this special excursion to bird at Bear Creek Wildlife Sanctuary in Saugus, MA. Bear Creek is one of the largest bird migration staging areas on the North Shore and a habitat for nearly 200 bird species. Winter birding is exceptional at this 370-acre grassland which overlooks Rumney Marsh. Possible species include Snow Goose, Horned Lark, Snow Bunting, Peregrine Falcon, various wintering ducks, and owls including Snowy and Short-eared.

Instructions

We will meet at Drumlin Farm's Environmental Learning Center in the staff lot. Bring binoculars if you have them (we have loaner pairs if you don't). Prepare for a 2-3 mile walk in cold weather by wearing layered clothing, warm gloves/mittens, a hat, and boots suitable for hiking through snowy paths and fields. Bring a snack and be sure to bring water. Leader will bring a scope for closer views of birds.
