Description
Join us for a walk at Stony Brook Reservation in West Roxbury, as we explore the life in a vernal pool and wetlands. Vernal pools are temporary ponds formed in the spring due to melting snow. They are critical habitats for a variety of animal and plant species. The spring is an amazing time for activity in a vernal pool. Salamanders and frogs are laying their eggs, while dragonflies emerge from the water and metamorphosize into flying insects.
We will also be participating in the City Nature Challenge by documenting the creatures we find and sharing them with the larger scientific community.
This event is co-sponsored with Zoo New England's Field Conservation Department.
