Description
Each of us has seen examples of Nature's new and unnerving unpredictability, whether a submerged marsh at high tide, our shorter/warmer winters, or our favorite forest devoured by invasive vines. As our new world changes and becomes less predictable, it becomes vital that we counter these changes with knowledge, understanding, and action.
The first lecture in this three-part series will focus on urban trees and how tree-planting efforts can shape Boston's urban canopy. Speaker Amara Chittenden serves as the Community Engagement Coordinator for Boston with Mass Audubon's Nature in the City program. Through this role, she manages the Boston Tree Alliance, an urban forestry effort in collaboration with the City of Boston and other community-based organizations to plant and care for trees on private land. Join us for an afternoon of discovery and inspiration as we explore the resilience and adaptability of our local urban environment.
Amara will co-presenting alongside Valerie Stiles, Mass Audubon's Urban and Community Forrester.
The speakers in each of the series' three lectures will dive deeply into their research, present the challenges posed by the new unpredictability we see, and, most importantly, set us on a course to do something, something tangible and inspiring to confront the challenges. We are not here only to listen. We are here to learn, and to use what we learn to make the world better, healthier, and familiar again.
