Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, September 17, 2024
Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between September 11 and September 17, 2024.
A Loggerhead Shrike was at Forest Beach in Chatham on the 11th and 12th.
A Brown Pelican has been spotted various places including the bay side of Wellfleet and Easth Harbor in Truro.
Birds at Race Point in Provincetown this week included a Buff-breasted Sandpiper, a Sabine’s Gull, a Pacific Loon, 15 Parasitic Jaegers, 3100 Common Tern, 16 Cory’s Shearwaters, 7 Great Shearwaters, 4 Sooty Shearwater, and 50 Manx Shearwaters.
Sightings at Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge included a Common Goldeneye, 20 Blue-winged Teal, 3 Northern Shoveler, 8 Northern Pintail, 3 Green-winged Teal, 9 Ruddy Ducks, 6 Pied-billed Grebe, and 5 Black-crowned Night Herons.
Other sightings around the Cape included a Golden-winged Warbler at Santuit Pond in Mashpee, a Blue Grosbeak in Barnstable, single Barn Owls in Chatham and Provincetown, a Little Blue Heron at Wellfleet Bay sanctuary, and 5 Seaside Sparrows and a Nelson’s Sparrow elsewhere in Wellfleet.
