Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, May 7, 2024
Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between May 1 and May 7, 2024.
A Swallow-tailed Kite was seen in Sandwich on the Monday the 6th.
Sightings in Mashpee included a Hooded Warbler, 2 Blue-winged Teal, and 2 Lesser Scaup at Santuit Pond, and a Yellow-crowned Night Heron at South Cape Beach.
Sightings at Race Point in Provincetown included a Pacific Loon, 400 Red-breasted Mergansers, 750 Laughing Gulls, a Lesser Black-backed Gull, and Iceland Gull, a Razorbill, and a Manx Shearwater.
Other sightings around the Cape included a Black Vulture in Bourne, a Vesper Sparrow, a Summer Tanager, and 12 Red Crossbills in Falmouth, a Chuck-will’s-widow at Camp Edwards, 2 Lesser Scaup in Mashpee, 2 Ring-necked Ducks and a Black Brant in Barnstable, a Red Knot in Dennis, 2 American Wigeon, a Pied-billed Grebe, and a Blue Grosbeak in Chatham, and 450 Red-throated Loons in Orleans.
