Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, July 9, 2024

Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between July 2 and July 9, 2024.

A Brown Booby was photographed off Race Point in Provincetown on the 6th.

Other birds at the Race included a Gull-billed Tern, a Royal Tern, an Arctic Tern, a Black Tern, 15 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, 35 Cory’s Shearwaters, 40 Great Shearwaters, 20 Sooty Shearwaters, and 4 Manx Shearwaters.

A Swallow-tailed Kite was seen near Santuit Pond in Mashpee this week.

Sightings at Crane Wildlife Management Area in Falmouth this week included a Wood Duck, 6 Killdeer, an American Kestrel, 2 Alder/Willow Flycatchers, 15 Eastern Kingbirds, 4 Brown Thrashers, 7 Northern Mockingbirds, 30 Grasshopper Sparrows, 30 Field Sparrows, 35 Eastern Towhees, 6 Eastern Meadowlarks, 6 Orchard Orioles, 13 Prairie Warblers, 7 Indigo Buntings, and at least one Blue Grosbeak.

Other sightings around the Cape included a Rose-breasted Grosbeak and a Black Vulture in West Barnstable, an American Bittern in Cummaquid, 3 Whimbrels in Dennis and 2 more at Wellfleet Bay sanctuary, a Black Guillemot off Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, and a continuing Chuck-will’s-Widow at Nauset Light Beach in Eastham.
