Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, July 30, 2024

Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between July 24 and July 30, 2024.

Four Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks spent the evening at Pogorelc Sanctuary in Barnstable on the 26th.

Single Swallow-tailed Kites were reported in Mashpee, Sandwich, and Barnstable this week.

Birds noted at the Morris Island section of Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge included a Long-tailed Duck, a Western Sandpiper, and 5 American Oystercatchers.

At Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay sanctuary birders reported 40 Whimbrels, a Pectoral Sandpiper, 3 Forster’s Terns, a Black-crowned Night-Heron, and 42 Purple Martins.

Birds at Race Point in Provincetown included a Pacific Loon, 2 Parasitic Jaegers, 24 Piping Plovers, 20 Roseate Terns, a Black Tern, 400 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, 3 Cory’s Shearwaters, 2 Manx Shearwaters, and a Merlin.

Other sightings around the Cape included 2 Blue Grosbeaks in Falmouth, 2 Little Blue Herons in Sandwich and one in Chatham, a continuing White-eyed Vireo in Cummaquid, a Black Skimmer at Chapin Beach in Dennis, and a continuing Chuck-will’s-Widow at Nauset Light Beach in Eastham.
