Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, July 16, 2024

Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between July 10 and July 16, 2024.

The American Flamingo, which had returned to Long Island, NY after a one day visit to the Cape last month, returned to Chapin Beach in Dennis again on Monday, where it was seen and photographed by many. It was not seen on Tuesday. Three Black Skimmers were also seen at Chapin Beach on Monday.

A Mississippi Kite was seen over rt 28 in Mashpee on the 16th.

Birds at Race Point in Provincetown included a Lesser Black-backed Gull, a Black Skimmer, an Arctic Tern, 50 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, a Leach’s Storm-Petrel, small numbers of Cory’s, Great, Sooty, and Manx Shearwaters, 2 Common Ravens, and a Peregrine Falcon.

Other sightings around the Cape included 2 Black Skimmers in Woods Hole, a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron in West Barnstable, 2 White-eyed Vireos at Long Pasture Sanctuary in Cummaquid, a continuing Black Guillemot off Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, and a continuing Chuck-will’s-Widow at Nauset Light Beach in Eastham.
