Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, August 27, 2024

Cape Cod Weekly Wildlife Sightings is sponsored by the Bird Watchers General Store in Orleans and Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The following sightings were reported between August 21 and August 27, 2024.

A Wood Stork was found in a recently cleared area along the Hering River in Wellfleet over the weekend, representing just the third Cape Cod record of this species. A Hooded Warbler and a Yellow-throated Vireo were also seen in the area.

Birds at Pogorelc Sanctuary in Barnstable included 2 Little Blue Herons, 5 Yellow-crowned Night Herons, 1 Black-crowned Night Heron, 76 Great Egrets, and 16 Snowy Egrets.

At Forest Beach in Chatham birders have seen 2 Black Scoters, 20 American Oystercatchers, a Marbled Godwit, 102 Greater Yellowlegs, and 2 Whimbrels.

Sightings at Race Point in Provincetown included an American Golden Plover, 4 Whimbrels, a Red Knot, 4 Parasitic Jaegers, a Black Tern, 2200 Common Terns, 500 Roseate Terns, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 4 Cory’s Shearwaters, 12 Great Shearwaters, 5 Sooty Shearwaters, and 45 Manx Shearwaters.

Other sightings around the Cape included a Black Vulture in Bourne, a Great Cormorant in Hyannis, a Golden-winged Warbler in Brewster, and a Caspian Tern at Wellfleet Bay sanctuary.
