Canoe Rentals at Wachusett Meadow

Spend a peaceful morning or afternoon canoeing on Wildlife Pond. Located close to the nature center, Wildlife Pond is an active beaver pond that provides easy paddling for all users, including beginners. While paddling, keep an eye out for abundant bird life including swallows, Belted Kingfishers, Hooded Mergansers, Wood Ducks, and woodpeckers; a variety of mammals such as mink, muskrat, beavers, and river otters; and plenty of reptiles and amphibians.

When to Canoe at Wachusett Meadow

Canoes are available for rental May 1 through October 31 on a first-come, first-served basis. Paddles and Personal flotation devices (PFDs) are provided—personally owned equipment is not permitted.

Canoe rentals are available Tuesday–Sunday & Monday holidays. Please call 978-464-2712 to check availability at least 24 hours before you plan to visit.

Canoe Rental Cost

Members, $10 per hour, minimum one hour

Nonmembers: $14 per hour, minimum one hour

Canoe Rules & Restrictions

  • Canoes may be rented only for use on Wachusett Meadow’s Wildlife Pond.
  • Personally owned canoes or other watercraft are not permitted on any sanctuary pond or wetland.
  • At least one 18-year-old participant with signed rental form is required for each canoe rental; canoes can accommodate up to 3 people.
  • PFDs must be worn at all times while in Mass Audubon canoes.
  • For the safety of all participants and the protection of wildlife and habitat, posted regulations are strictly enforced.
