Metro South Thanks Volunteers for a Year of Dedication

February 04, 2025

The team at Metro South extends a heartfelt thank you to all the incredible volunteers who supported our work throughout the past year.

Our dedicated volunteers contributed over 6,000 hours to Mass Audubon’s mission of protecting the nature of Massachusetts. Their invaluable efforts spanned across various initiatives, including the care of our resident animals, educational programming, ecological management, and sustainable farming.

Maple Sugaring Support

Volunteers play a vital role in our maple sugaring operation at Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, assisting with every step of the process to bring fresh, local syrup to the community. They help tap the trees, collect the sap, and then boil it down into rich, golden syrup, ensuring a successful season each year.

Their dedication also drives Moose Hill’s annual Maple Sugaring Event, where they share their passion and expertise with visitors of all ages in the Sugar Shack. By passing down their knowledge and love for syrup-making, they help preserve this cherished tradition for future generations.

Farm Help

This past season, 134 volunteers from eight different organizations dedicated a total of 368 service hours to supporting The Farm at Moose Hill. Their hard work played a crucial role in managing weeds, ensuring larger crop harvests later in the season, and tackling major projects. By contributing their time and effort, these volunteers helped the farm operate more efficiently and maintain a productive growing environment.

Statewide Volunteer Day

In April, 11 volunteers participated in the Statewide Volunteer Day at the Museum of American Bird Art Education Center, contributing a total of 33 service hours. They removed invasive plants, mulched around trees, weeded the bird garden, and planted flowers.

Their efforts helped improve the landscape, creating a healthier and more vibrant environment for both visitors and wildlife.
