Ipswich River Nature Camp: Cultivating the Next Generation of Nature Heroes
February 26, 2025
At Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, generations of campers have embraced the great outdoors, filling their days with exploration and a genuine sense of belonging while deepening their understanding of the natural world. Our summer nature camp offers engaging activities for ages 5 to 14, ranging from hiking, canoeing, pond discovery, nature-themed art, exploring local wildlife, photography, and more.
The outdoor learning environment is the perfect stage for fun memories and lasting confidence to flourish. Who could forget the thrill of gently holding a grasshopper for the first time or the exhilaration of paddling a canoe along a sparkling river, surrounded by the laughter of fellow campers, all sharing the moment of, "We did it!"
From Camper to Teacher Naturalist
One of the most inspiring examples of our camp’s impact is embodied by our effervescent camp alumna and teacher naturalist, Morgan Davidson. Morgan began her journey as a wide-eyed camper at just five years old. Year after year, her love for nature and education blossomed, leading her to roles as a high school intern, camp counselor-in-training, assistant camp counselor, and eventually, a lead counselor.
Her passion for teaching transcended camp; she later took on the role of a dedicated field teacher. Having recently joined the staff full time, Morgan is a teacher naturalist responsible for K-12 programming, engaging students through dynamic school programs as well as family activities teacher naturalist responsible for programming engaging K-12 students through dynamic school programs as well as family activities, and special events.
"I was instantly inspired by the vast landscape and extraordinary creatures the sanctuary had to offer,” Morgan said. “Ipswich River quickly became a second home to me. My camp counselors were welcoming and nurturing, always encouraging my curiosity and desire to explore. They were such great role models. From an early age, I knew I wanted to pass on my love of nature to the next generation. I feel so lucky that Ipswich River Day Camp significantly impacted my life and helped me get to where I am today!"
A Day in the Life of a Summer Nature Camper
At Ipswich River Nature Camp, campers explore nature while making friends and creating lasting memories. Small group sizes mean each child gets personal attention from dedicated counselors, who provide a high-quality, educational experience.
Hands-on activities connect campers with the beauty and variety of nature. This includes guided hikes and interactive sessions about local wildlife and ecosystems. A welcoming atmosphere encourages curiosity and a sense of responsibility towards the environment. Every child leaves camp with cherished memories and a stronger bond with nature.
