Boston Nature Center a Boston Magazine ‘Best of Boston®’ 2021 Winner

MATTAPAN—Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center Wildlife Sanctuary (BNC) has been named a 2021 Best Of Boston® Winner for “Best Kids’ Classes” in the Service category of the popular annual feature.

The annual awards—presented in multiple lifestyle areas for all that is “best” in the city of Boston and beyond—have been overseen by Boston Magazine for more than four decades.

Boston Nature Center’s role in helping children especially forge lifelong connections with the natural world is emblematic of Mass Audubon’s organization-wide commitment to connecting people and nature. Nature-based education is one Mass Audubon’s foundational priorities.

In lauding BNC’s educational programs, the award statement read: What kid doesn’t love learning about slugs, snails, raccoons, and opossums? Start your morning in the great outdoors at Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center, which offers hundreds of weekend classes on topics like these year-round.

“The Boston Nature Center community—including staff, members, and program participants—is delighted to be recognized with this honor,” Mass Audubon Boston Director Julie Brandlen said. “From our state-licensed preschool to programs for older teens, we are committed to engaging young people both at the sanctuary and where they live, instilling a love of nature they can carry through their lives.”

For nearly two decades, the 67-acre wildlife sanctuary in Mattapan has served as a nature destination and green resource for that community as well as for other city neighborhoods and surrounding municipalities.

The George Robert White Environmental Conservation Center at Boston Nature Center was the first municipal “green” building in the city and has been a model for sustainable actions that help counter climate change.
