February is Black History Month—a time designated to celebrate the history and future of Black America. This Black History Month, take to the woods with these local nature and adventure groups that uplift and nurture Black connections to nature.
Outdoor Afro
A national nonprofit, Outdoor Afro celebrates and furthers Black experiences and leadership in nature. Founder and CEO Rue Mapp started the organization in Oakland, California in 2009, and they now have chapters in 60 cities across the country. The group hosts activities that range from hiking to fishing to biking to gardening and more, all with the goal of enhancing Black people’s connection to nature through education, recreation, and conservation. Check out their Boston chapter on Meetup and Facebook.
Black and Wild
