Introducing A New Program for Every Conservation Journey
December 05, 2024
Acting on behalf of nature and the environment often begins with a simple desire: to make a difference. Deciding what steps to take next, however, can feel overwhelming.
Mass Audubon’s new Conservation in Action Certificate Program bridges the gap between passion and impact, equipping participants with the knowledge, tools, and practical experiences to tackle conservation challenges in their communities and beyond. Whether you’re a seasoned advocate or someone just beginning to explore conservation, this program offers the resources you need to take meaningful steps toward protecting the natural world.
Work Alongside Industry Leaders
Through an 11-week online course and hands-on conservation projects across Massachusetts, participants gain insights from Mass Audubon’s experts in land protection, ecological restoration, and environmental advocacy. Sessions delve into the psychology of motivating others to act, provide pathways for engaging with local and regional initiatives, and explore practical ways to make a difference. Once the coursework wraps, participants apply their new skills in field experiences, from restoring habitats to advancing environmental legislation.
Shared Goals, Unique Motivations
The program resonates with a wide range of people, each inspired by their own motivations.
One Massachusetts resident hopes to deepen their understanding of local conservation issues, saying, “This program offers the opportunity to learn what’s happening locally and find ways to get involved. I trust Mass Audubon to provide up-to-date, accurate, and important information.”
The certification program also appeals to professionals looking to deepen their work. A consultant for environmental organizations aims to sharpen their advocacy skills, noting, “This program will give me the tools and tactics to better support my nonprofit clients to make better cases for volunteer engagement and philanthropic support…I will also become a better volunteer!” In addition, an educator, Climate Champion, and longtime conservationist views the program as a way to build on their existing experiences: “There are always ways to learn how to better use these roles to advocate for nature.”
Others are driven by their personal legacy and desire to create a lasting impact through their efforts. One grandparent shared “I have five grandchildren and want to see our planet remain beautifully livable for a long time to come.”
Each motivation underscores the program’s versatility, meeting participants where they are and guiding them toward their next steps. Some plan to advocate for environmental policies, while others envision transforming their communities or households through sustainable practices.
