Straitsmouth Island Wildlife Sanctuary
- Rockport
- 32 Acres
Plan Your Visit
Encompassing most of a rocky island, the wildlife sanctuary is adjacent to the town-owned historic lighthouse and lies within a designated Important Bird Area. Mass Audubon is working with the Town of Rockport and the Thacher Island Association to restore and maintain the lighthouse and lighthouse keeper residence, which are both historically significant structures. Boat trips to the island run each summer via Thacher Island Association. If you prefer to head out to the island on your own, you can reach out to local kayak operators for rentals and guided tours.
