MassArt Students Create Artwork Inspired by Museum of American Bird Art Collection
January 17, 2025
Mass Audubon’s Museum of American Bird Art (MABA) is excited to announce a recent collaboration with the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (Mass Art).
After her wonderful talk as part of MABA’s lecture series this past fall, Natasza Fontaine, visiting professor in the Department of Integrative Sciences and Biological Arts at Mass Art asked the students in her studio course, “Sound and Color,” to look to MABA’s art collection as inspiration for their final projects.
The course was focused on creating avian art, and covered basic avian anatomy, habitats, sound, colors, and general science communication. The students spent time looking at the MABA collection online and chose specific works and artists that inspired them, whether for their medium, design, composition, subject, or skilled observation.
The result is a collection of personal artistic reflections in various media that demonstrates the myriad ways in which artists continue to be inspired by birds and interpret these wondrous creatures through individual experience and artistic style. MABA is grateful to Professor Fontaine and the talented students at MassArt for their incredible work!
