Teen Birders: Birding by Canoe

Description

Exploring by canoe is a great way to experience nature at eye level! Let's hit the water to look for the hanging nests of Baltimore Oriole on river edges as herons wade, swallows dive, and hawks soar overhead. We'll listen for Marsh Wrens and Willow Flycatchers as we cruise down the river watching for mink and otter. We will start the morning with a 1.5-hour walk at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, followed by a 2-hour canoe trip.

Please note: Online registration includes van transportation from Drumlin Farm in Lincoln MA. If you prefer to drop off and pick up at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, please call us to register at a reduced rate. Even if van capactiy has been reached, additional spaces may be available for drop-off only.

Instructions

Wear comfortable clothing. Non-cotton is better as it dries faster if you get splashed while we canoe. Wear shoes suitable for both walking and canoeing, like sneakers or closed-toe water sandals. Bring snacks, plenty of water, and binoculars if you have them (loaner pairs available upon request).

Indoor restrooms are available at Drumlin Farm and Ipswich River Sanctuary before we head out.
