Description
Mid-September is the peak of the Broad-winged Hawk migration. If conditions are right, we might witness kettles of large numbers of birds moving south to spend the winter. Optimum conditions include winds under 20 mph from the northwest or northeast. Blueberry Hill is a great location to watch for migrating hawks. We'll be looking for several hawk species, as well as eagles, vultures, and ravens. We may also see migrating warblers.
We will also discuss "Rescue Raptors" a Mass Audubon campaign to support local campaigns in communites througout the commonwealth to reduce the use of second generation anti coagulant rodenticides (SGARS) which poisons and kills an alarming number of raptors.

Restrooms are not available. Take Mass Pike to Westfield (Exit 3). Turn south onto Routes 10 and 202 to Southwick. Take Route 57 west to North Lane 2, a right turn approximately 3 miles west from Granville center. Take North Lane #2 about a mile north to Blueberry Hill, obvious on your right. Park at base and walk 1/4 mile to summit.
