Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary - Volunteer Sanctuary Volunteers Location: Barnstable, MA Ecological Management Team Member
If you enjoy working outdoors, you can help Long Pasture by participating in conservation activities, such as trail clearing, invasive species removal, mowing and more. If you have carpentry skills, you can build nest boxes, tern decoys, and other projects to aid in attracting and managing wildlife.
Program Leader
If you have a background in education or working with groups, you may wish to lead our summer tidal flat explorations or natural history tours of Long Pasture. We will provide training and background materials, and you provide the enthusiasm. You will be rewarded by the joy and amazement of visitors discovering the flats and the sanctuary for the first time.
Educational Assistant
If you enjoy working with children, you can assist our educators during our summer morning art and ecology program for elementary aged kids. We may also have opportunities to help with classroom visits and field trips to the sanctuary. You can help to inspire a sense of wonder!
Special Events Assistant
If you would like to attend concerts and festivals, you can join in the festivities by selling tickets, manning a booth, offering information to guests, and of course, enjoying the view. You may also assist in event planning and marketing.
Citizen Scientist
If you are interested in wildlife and research, you can participate in one of Mass Audubon’s ongoing wildlife studies, such as Horseshoe Crab Population surveys, Osprey nest productivity monitoring, breeding bird censuses, and others. Your work will directly contribute to databases that track species over time.
Special Projects
If you have a special talent or interest that you would like to share with Long Pasture, we invite you to meet with us and plan a special project. Previous projects have included creation of a lichen brochure, illustrations for nature guides, and photographing the sanctuary.
