August 4-6
Mysteries of Marine Science

Tuesday: Visit an active oyster reef restoration project and help scientists assess oyster density and growth and do core sampling to look for invertebrate worms Meet scientist Owen Nichols from the Center for Coastal Studies and learn about on-going squid population and distribution research.
Wednesday: Meet scientist Carol Krill Carson, and assist her in identifying individual whales and ocean sunfish that have been sighted off our coast. We’ll also help her with a seal or dolphin necropsy to determine cause of death.
Thursday: Participate in ongoing field research investigating the cutting edge issue of salt marsh dieback—it is believed a nocturnal crab is to blame. Then continue our crab investigations with a trip to monitoring stations in Black Duck Creek to collect, measure, and monitor various crab and invertebrate species (including juvenile horseshoe crabs).
Thursday
evening
:
Visit the marsh at night to view the feeding masses of nocturnal marsh crabs. Then travel to a local beach to relax around a campfire and discuss our week.

August 11-13
Extreme Outdoors

Tuesday: Gain leadership skills and self-confidence (and have fun) as we bike through the Provincelands. We hope to make it all the way to the ocean for an amazing view.
Wednesday: Attempt to complete a low ropes course and experience the thrill of a zip line at Camp Burgess and Hayward’s challenge course facility on the upper Cape. We’ll need to work as a team and, of course, we’ll put safety first!
Thursday: Spend the day kayaking and snorkeling at various locations on the outer Cape.  Also, using orienteering skills, find your way through a natural marsh maze.
Thursday
evening
:
In Nickerson State Park on our last evening together we’ll canoe one of the deepest kettle ponds on the outer Cape and relax as we reflect on the week’s adventures.

August 18-20
Nature Photography

Wednesday: We’ll take our skills to a new location, Long Pasture Sanctuary in Barnstable, and  explore the beautiful vistas and hidden beauty that are found there.
Thursday: Thursday: Learn more advanced photographic skills as we explore various locations on the outer Cape through our lens.
Thursday
evening
:
At a sunset shoot at Boat Meadow Creek we should get some amazing shots to take home for posterity!
