Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary

Pleasant Valley’s thriving beaver
population is one of the many
fascinating features of this sanctuary.
When you walk along Yokun
Brook, take note of the “lodges”
of tree branches and mud, where
these nocturnal creatures spend
their days. Salamander migrations
are a major spring event along
West Mountain Road. Seven
miles of trails that wind through
hardwood forest, meadows,
wetlands, and along the slopes of
Lenox Mountain make this site
an excellent location for hiking. Canoe trips are offered regularly on the Housatonic River and area lakes
from mid-May through Colombus Day.

Nature Center/Trail Hours:
Nature Center: Tuesday through
Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday,
Sunday, and Monday holidays,
10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday (end
of June through Columbus Day),
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact

Trails: Open on days the nature
center is open, dawn to dusk.
- For Your Safety
- Do not feed any animals
- Stay on trails to avoid ticks and poison ivy
- Do not smoke anywhere on the sanctuary
- Do not pick or collect plants or crops without permission
- Avoid Conflicts with Wildlife
- Do not bring pets, leashed or unleashed, on to the site
- Picnic only in designated areas
- Do not bring motorized vehicles or bicycles onto the site
- Hunting, fishing, or trapping are not permitted
Admission:
$4 for nonmember adults;
$3 for nonmember children (2-12)
and seniors
Directions:
From the Mass. Turnpike
(Rt I-90): Take exit 2 (Lee) and
follow Rt 20 west for 6.6 miles
(Rt 20 merges with Rt 7). Turn
left onto W Dugway Road and
the sanctuary is 1.6 miles ahead
on the right.
From the North:
Take Rt 7 and Rt 20 south from Park
Square in the center of Pittsfield for 4.9 miles. Turn right onto West
Dugway Road and the sanctuary is 1.6 miles ahead on the right.
