Campaign Goals & Accomplishments
- Welcome and Orient Visitors
The new admissions area at Drumlin Farm will help visitors feel welcome and informed upon their arrival. The generous Ogden Codman Trust challenge grant, along with grants from the Sudbury Foundation and many individual donors, helped us accomplish this important goal. In addition, the entry hill between the Welcome Area and the farmyard is being entirely revamped to provide a more accessible and scenic entrance to Drumlin Farm for all our visitors. The Campaign also funded an improved entry drive and parking area, which provide a safe, welcoming entry to the farm.
- Improve the Farmyard Buildings
New accessible restrooms have been added to the Red Barn for the convenience of all visitors. Our beautiful new Pig Barn features more space for the animals, better viewing for our visitors, and adds a much-needed classroom for camp groups and visitor programs. The Poultry House has been transformed into an inviting, educational space that meets the needs of our chickens, farmers, visitors, and classes. Bird Hill has been entirely renovated with new enclosures for the resident wildlife; educational panels help visitors better enjoy and identify the resident bird species. The Sheep and Goat Barn will also get a facelift as we complete the building goals of the Campaign.
- Enhance Educational Opportunites
New educational space will drastically improve our ability to offer varied and year-round programs. The boardwalk and floating platform at the farmyard pond let us offer expanded ponding classes, while interpretive displays teach visitors about pond ecology and responsible wetlands management. The Farm Life Center will be completely rebuilt to include a demonstration kitchen beside the core garden to teach classes about how food is grown and used, while also adding more classroom space for our school groups and family programs.
- Promote Understanding of the Nature of Massachusetts
Interpretive signs have been installed (with more to come) at key locations around the site to enrich visitors' experiences and help promote understanding of Drumlin Farm. The Forest Discovery Trail through the red pine forest features fun, hands-on activities that encourage play and discovery in nature.
- Preserve the Farm Into the Future
A robust Endowment Fund has been created with Campaign donations to ensure Drumlin Farm continues to thrive.
