School Programs with Mass Audubon’s Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary

More about our
Naturalist-in-Residence
Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary's school program curriculum guides inquiry into nature through “hands-on / minds-on” experiences with the natural world. It is designed to develop students’ curiosity about nature into appreciation for their local environment. We provide teachers with a resource that helps them expand their curriculum in line with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.

We will work with you to develop programming that will meet your needs. We can adapt programs to complement your classroom curriculum, or create something unique. You may choose to take a field trip to Broadmoor and pick from a variety of programs at the Sanctuary, where fields, forests, and wetlands cover 624 acres along the Charles River in Natick and Sherborn. The diverse landscape offers participants a wealth of opportunity to gain knowledge of, to become familiar with, and be comfortable in, the natural world. Or, you might choose to have a Broadmoor Teacher Naturalist come to your school for classroom lessons or outside nature exploration, or for a combination of classroom and outside lessons in our unique ALLIES (Achieving Long-term Literacy In Environmental Science) program.

Nature School for Home Schoolers
The Nature School series at Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary is designed to encourage home school children to interact with the environment through nature exploration and science-based learning and with each other through group building and games. Portions of the program will take place indoors, but most days we anticipate spending the majority of time outdoors, on site, at Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary. Participants will also receive “home projects” each week to help further their learning and to share with their families. This is designed as a “drop-off” program so that children may gain independence and further develop social skills with other children.

Please contact the school education coordinator for current Nature School series dates, themes and availability, by calling 508-655-2296 x7304 or emailing broadmoorschool@massaudubon.org.
