Invasive Shrub Control and Grassland Restoration

Goal

Project goal:

Removal of the invasive shrubs glossy buckthorn (Frangula alnus), multiflora rose (Rosa multiflora), common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), shrub honeysuckles (Lonicera spp.) and autumn olive (Elaeagnus umbellata) to restore grassland habitat.

Approach

Project Approach:

Mechanical removal of invasive shrubs followed by herbicide applications and maintenance mowing.

Results

Project Results:

Both projects are in progress and will be completed in phases over the next several years.

Project Locations:

Broadmoorrestore 30 acres of former grasslands by removing invasive shrubs and native trees
Drumlin Farmrestore 13 acres of former grasslands by removing invasive shrubs
