Form:
  deciduous tree growing up to 100 feet high
Origin:
  Appalachian and Ozark Mountains of North America
How it got here:
  planted for erosion control and durable wood
How it spreads:
  vegetative root suckers and seeds
Threat:
  invades fields, grasslands, and open woodlands. Black locust’s ability to increase soil nitrogen levels threatens native plants adapted to nutrient-poor soils.
