Common Reed (Phragmites australis)

Form:
  perennial grass, grows as tall as 14 feet by late summer
Origin:
  Europe and Asia (there is a native subspecies of common reed exists but it is rare and does not form dense stands)
How it got here:
  likely by accident
How it spreads:
  rhizomes and wind borne seeds
Threat:
  invades wetlands, often forming dense stands that exclude other plant species
